California Electricity Pricing Spikes!
There are two pricing components that have recently exploded.
Resource Adequacy (Capacity) Charges is a fee to insure there is sufficient energy supply to meet the (24/7) generation demands of California.
This line item cost has increased an estimated 10-fold during the summer months for many high-volume customers.
The bright side is that these increased costs are expected to subside heading into winter and then increase again the following summer.
Renewable Portfolio Standards (RPS) Charge is a fee that ensures ESPs are utilizing sufficient renewable energy resources and investing in renewable projects.
